La Casa Azul is small, personal, and unlike any other museum in the city: Frida Kahlo’s actual house, kept much as she and Diego Rivera left it — her studio with the wheelchair at the easel, the kitchen in yellow and blue, the mirrored bed, the garden with its little pyramid.

It rewards slowness more than stamina. An hour and a half covers it honestly, and afterward the center of Coyoacán — plaza, church, market, churros — is a ten-minute stroll of exactly the same unhurried temperature.

Getting there

30-50 minutes by rideshare from the central neighborhoods — Coyoacán is well south of the visitor core, so plan it as a half-day with the plaza and market nearby. Streets around the museum are cobbled but flat.

If you are recovering

The house itself is compact and mostly single-level, with a quiet garden courtyard made for sitting. The timed-ticket system keeps crowds inside manageable. Cobblestones in the surrounding blocks are uneven — flat, supportive shoes help.
