You have seen the building even if you do not know it: a windowless silver torque covered in 16,000 aluminum hexagons, built by Carlos Slim to house his collection and free to everyone. Inside are Rodins by the dozen — one of the largest casts collections anywhere — alongside old masters, New Spanish painting, and Rivera and Siqueiros up at the crown of the spiral.
The collection is uneven by design, and that is part of its charm; you wander a billionaire’s attic. Go without a checklist, ride the elevator to the sixth floor, and drift down the ramp.
Getting there
On the Nuevo Polanco side, 5-10 minutes by rideshare from central Polanco hotels. The Museo Jumex is directly across the plaza, so the two make one easy outing.
If you are recovering
Free entry means nothing is lost by keeping a visit short. The building ramps gently between floors and has elevators throughout; there is seating on most levels. Combined with Jumex next door, it is one of the lowest-effort culture afternoons in the city.
